Influenced Sales

Influenced sales occur when a visitor watches a video on your store but does not make an immediate purchase through the video. Instead, the visitor continues to browse your site and buys something later. The video influences their decision to make a purchase, even if it's not directly through the video.

To track and measure influenced sales, Novel monitors the sessions of visitors who interact with videos on your website. This involves following the visitor's session after they engage with the video to see if they make a purchase later on.

Typically, influenced sales are about 10 times more frequent than direct video sales. This indicates that while visitors are highly engaged with video content, many prefer to continue browsing before completing their purchase.

Video Sales

Video sales occur when a visitor to your website makes a purchase directly through a video. This means the customer interacts with the shoppable content and completes a transaction without leaving the video interface.

To track video sales, Novel monitors the session of the visitor who interacts with the video. When the visitor completes a purchase through the video, it is recorded as a video sale. This tracking helps you understand the direct impact of your shoppable video content on sales.

  • Interact with the shoppable video.

  • Complete the purchase within the video.

Note: Video sales provide clear insights into how effective your video content is in converting viewers into buyers.

Average Order Value

Average Order Value (AOV) is a metric that calculates the average dollar amount spent each time a customer places an order on a website.

In e-commerce, AOV is important because it helps you understand customer purchasing behavior and measure the effectiveness of marketing strategies. By increasing the AOV, businesses can boost their revenue without the need to acquire new customers.

Novel tracks AOV by analyzing the average amount spent across all orders placed after visitors interact with the shoppable videos. This data helps you make informed decisions about your video content and its influence on the shopping behavior of your customers.

Engagement Metrics

Novel tracks several key engagement metrics to help you understand how visitors interact with your shoppable video content.

Average Watch Time measures the average duration that visitors spend watching your videos. Knowing how long users engage with your content can provide insights into its effectiveness and appeal.

Percentage of Visitors Engaged shows the proportion of visitors who interact with your videos out of the total number of visitors to the page. This metric helps you gauge how compelling and relevant your video content is to your audience.

Impressions count how many times your video embeds are viewed by visitors. This helps you understand the reach of your shoppable video content.

Use Metrics To Inform Content Strategy

Understanding engagement metrics is key to optimizing your content strategy. By keeping track of your metrics, you can test, learn, and optimize your video content strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • AOV stands for Average Order Value. It measures the average amount spent by customers per order on your Shopify store.

  • In Shopify webstores with a Novel embed, videos only play when they are within the viewport. An impression is counted when the embed loads and is only counted once per session.

An impression is not counted each time someone watches a video. A user could watch 20 videos in a carousel within a session, but that would only count as 1 impression. However, each individual time a user watches an embed, even if a repeat view, it is counted as an impression. Novel's marginal product costs are associated with the loading of a video embed. Each load is an impression.

  • Impressions track how many times a Novel video embed is displayed on your Shopify store, regardless of whether visitors interact with it.

  • Video sales are tracked by monitoring when a visitor purchases a product directly through an embedded Novel video on your store.

  • Engagement is measured by metrics such as Average Watch Time, the percentage of visitors who engage with videos, and the number of Impressions.
